This beautiful hand painted Tibetan thangka depicts Shakyamuni Buddha སངས་རྒྱས་ཤཱཀྱ་ཐུབ་པ (aka Gautama Buddhasitting on a lotus platform in front of a Bodhi tree. The Buddha is seated with his right hand in earth-touching bhumisparsa mudra and with an alms bowl filled with nectar in his left hand. His two principal disciples, Sariputra ཤཱ་རིའི་བུ། and Maudgalyayana མོའུ་འགལ་གྱི་བུ།, stand to his sides and each holds a khakkhara staff in the right hand and a black alms bowl in the left. Sitting in front of the Buddha are his five first disciples (bhadravargīya) - Kaundinya ཀུན་ཤེས་ཀཽཎ་ཌི་ཉ་, Bhadrika བཟང་ལྡན་, Vashpa རླངས་པ་, Mahanaman མིང་ཆེན་ and Ashvajit རྟ་ཐུལ་.

The thangka is painted entirely by hand on cotton canvas using natural mineral and vegetable pigments with 24K gold details. The complicated designs, intricate brushstrokes, and extraordinary detail make these thangkas authentic works of Buddhist art. A true masterpiece, this traditional Buddhist painting is the perfect addition to your home, meditation space, room shrine or altar space.
