This beautiful hand painted Tibetan thangka painting depicts White Mahakala མགོན་དཀར་, also known as Shadbhuja Sita Mahakala or the "White Lord with Six Hands". White Mahakala is a Dharma protector, a tantric wealth deity and emanation of Avalokiteshvara. He is a wrathful tantric deity that holds in his six arms: a wish-fulfilling jewel, a skull cup containing a vase filled with jewels, a curved flaying knife, a trident, a damaru drum and a vajra hook. These elements symbolize his power to increase one's material and spiritual wealth, to attract positive things and to purify negative karma.
The thangka is painted entirely by hand on cotton canvas using natural mineral and vegetable pigments with 24K gold details. The complicated designs, intricate brushstrokes, and extraordinary detail make these thangkas authentic works of Buddhist art. A true masterpiece, this traditional Buddhist painting is the perfect addition to your home, meditation space, room shrine or altar space.
