This beautiful hand painted Tibetan thangka depicts Machik Labdron མ་ཅིག་ལབ་སྒྲོན་. Her name means "Singular Mother Torch from Lab". She is considered a reincarnation of Yeshe Tsogyal ཡེ་ཤེས་མཚོ་རྒྱལ, Guru Rinpoche's main consort. Machik Labdron was a female master who initiated in Tibet and Bhutan the lineage of the practice of Chö གཅོད་ (‘cutting through’ ego-clinging) and the main disciple of Padampa Sangye ཕ་དམ་པ་སངས་རྒྱས (featured above her in the thangka).
The thangka is painted entirely by hand on cotton canvas using natural mineral and vegetable pigments with 24K gold details. The complicated designs, intricate brushstrokes, and extraordinary detail make these thangkas authentic works of Buddhist art. A true masterpiece, this traditional Buddhist painting is the perfect addition to your home, meditation space, room shrine or altar space.
